Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim gave Manchester United fans more bad news after the team’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at home on Sunday. The match was part of the 24th round of the Premier League.
The match between United and Crystal Palace witnessed the home team’s defender, Argentine Lisandro Martinez, sustaining a severe injury, which forced him to leave the field on a stretcher in the 82nd minute.

Ruben Amorim talks about Lisandro Martinez’s injury
After the match, Amorim spoke about Martinez’s injury. Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano shared his words on social media platform “X.”
Ruben Amorim said, “I think it is serious. He is not only a great player, but also an important leader in the dressing room.”
He added, “He felt it, and as a player, you know when something is really bad. We are here to support him.”
Martinez, who is 27 years old, joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022 from Ajax Amsterdam. The transfer fee was 57.37 million euros, according to the global website “Transfer Market.”
Since signing for United, Martinez has played 91 matches in all competitions. He has contributed to six goals, scoring three and assisting three.

Many believe his absence will be another big problem for United under Amorim. The Portuguese coach took charge of the club last November after replacing Erik ten Hag.
So far, Ruben Amorim has managed United in 19 matches. The team has won nine, drawn two and lost eight. They have scored 34 goals and conceded the same number.
With the loss against Crystal Palace, Manchester United now have 29 points from 24 league matches. Their record includes eight wins, five draws and 11 defeats. They are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table.
United’s next match
Manchester United’s next match is on Friday, 7 February, against Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Amorim hopes to lead his team to success in cup competitions. United have already made it to the last 16 of the Europa League after finishing third in their group stage.
