Man United, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season, have now officially announced the signing of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha after many weeks of rumours.

United will pay £62.5 million to bring in Cunha by triggering his release clause at Wolves, but they will pay the fee in instalments. The club have not said how long Cunha’s contract is, but most reports expect a five-year deal with an option to extend for one more year.

Cunha ended the 2024–25 Premier League season with 15 goals and six assists. He showed great form and proved himself as one of the top strikers in the league.

United still plan to improve their attacking midfield during this transfer window, but bringing in Cunha already gives the team a serious boost. The Brazilian striker wants to continue his great form from Wolves and now hopes to make a big name for himself at United.

Man United finished last season on a high by beating Aston Villa 2–0 in the final league match. But that result didn’t take away the pain of what was one of their worst seasons ever, ending 15th – a place far from where fans and the club expect to be.

The team’s summer tour in Asia didn’t help much either. They lost to the Asian Stars and only managed a small win against Hong Kong. Their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final still hurts supporters. All of this puts big pressure on manager Ruben Amorim, who needs to make serious changes this summer to get the club back on track.

United must bring in more new players before the season starts, and Cunha is a strong way to kick things off. The 26-year-old striker has played 13 times for Brazil and has made 270 appearances with 72 goals in his club career. He has played in top leagues in England, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.
