Man City boss Pep Guardiola keeps working with club officials during the 2025 summer transfer window. He wants to improve the squad in the best way possible so the team can win the Premier League again and fight for the Champions League.
Guardiola upset man city fans during the 2024–25 season. The team lost the league title for the first time in four years and also left the Champions League early after losing to Real Madrid in the play-offs.
Now, the only big target left is the Club World Cup in the United States. Man City are in a group with Juventus from Italy, Wydad Casablanca from Morocco, and Al Ain from the UAE.
What is Guardiola planning in the transfer window?
The British newspaper “Mirror” shared that Guardiola now looks for a replacement for Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne confirmed he will leave man city in summer 2025 after his contract ends.
Guardiola wanted to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. But Liverpool and Bayern Munich seem more likely to sign the young German star.
Guardiola also wants a strong midfielder who can replace German Ilkay Gundogan and Croatian Mateo Kovacic over the long term.
How will man city play in 2025–26?
The report said Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson will stay as the number one choice for Guardiola, even though he had an up-and-down season last year.
The manager really needs two new full-backs. The club are looking at Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento. Livramento just had a great season under manager Eddie Howe.
Another name on Guardiola’s list is Algerian left-back Rayan Ait Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Reports say city are close to signing him to fix the problems on the left side. At the centre of defence, Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are still staying in the team.
In midfield, Rodri returns to the squad fully fit after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. He will likely form a solid partnership with new Dutch signing Tijani Reynders, who came from AC Milan.
Omar Marmoush surprise

The report also said Egyptian player Omar Marmoush might not be a regular in Guardiola’s team this season. He could act as a backup to Belgian winger Jeremy Doku.
The source added that man city are also trying to sign French playmaker Rayan Cherki. Guardiola wants him to play alongside Doku and Brazilian winger Savinho behind star striker Erling Haaland.
Man City’s expected starting eleven for the new season:
Goalkeeper: Ederson
Defenders: Tino Livramento, Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias, Rayan Ait Nouri
Midfielders: Rodri, Tijani Reynders, Rayan Cherki
Attackers: Erling Haaland, Savinho, Jeremy Doku
