Ipswich Town’s young English striker Liam Delap has explained why he chose to join Chelsea instead of man united this summer.

Delap completed his move to Chelsea for £30 million, turning down interest from man united. He said Chelsea are heading in the right direction.

Liam Delap Chooses Chelsea Over Man United

The Ipswich Town striker was expected to leave this summer after a strong season. He had many options, and both Chelsea and the Red Devils wanted him. But he picked Stamford Bridge.

Champions League football played a big role in his choice. Chelsea won the Europa Conference League and reached the top five on the final day of the season, which gave them a Champions League spot.

On the other hand, man united missed out on all European competitions, and that pushed Delap to look elsewhere.

The 22-year-old scored 12 goals in the Premier League and earned a nomination for the Young Player of the Year award.

Delap said Chelsea are rising fast as they keep bringing in new talent. He thinks playing at Stamford Bridge will help him grow and get better.

“I know where this club is going, and I see what it offers with these players and the coach,” he said, as reported by the Mirror. “It’s a great place to grow, and I want to do great things here and help the club win more trophies.”

He added, “I came here to win trophies. When I talked to the club, everyone wanted to return to the top. They have the players and the quality to do that. The club has the passion and drive to win again and reach the level it belongs at.”

Maresca Looks for a New Striker

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has said he wants to improve his attack. He has mostly relied on Nicolas Jackson, but Jackson’s backup has not done well. Maresca doesn’t seem to fully trust Christopher Nkunku.

He made it clear that he needs a striker who can push Jackson, and Delap looks ready for that role.

Delap impressed even though Ipswich got relegated. His release clause kicked in after the team went down to the Championship, making him a smart and affordable choice.

Man united now have to turn to other names. They already brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for just over £60 million. Manager Ruben Amorim now needs to look at the rest of his list as he aims to improve the team’s attack.
