Arne Slot believes Manchester United, despite their poor form this season, have a better squad than their league position suggests. The Liverpool manager expressed confidence that Ruben Amorim will eventually unlock the team’s potential.

“It’s a big game. They have much better players than the league table reflects,” Slot said. “It might take Ruben some time to get the best out of them, but they will improve.”

Ahead of Sunday’s match at Anfield, Slot empathized with Amorim, who has faced challenges since joining United in November, losing six of his 11 games, leaving the club in 14th place.

“Every manager feels for others because we all understand the pressure of this job,” Slot remarked. “Ruben did so well at Sporting and has a talented squad. He will bring out the best in them eventually.”

During his pre-match press conference, Slot also praised Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk, who celebrates seven years since his debut at Anfield.

“Virgil has exceptional game intelligence. He reads the game well, and he’s strong, fast, and impressive in possession,” Slot said. “He’s a complete player, just like Mo Salah. That’s why they’re among the best in the world. Even Virgil can improve in some areas, but he’s been outstanding for us and is a true leader.”

Arne Slot warned his players about underestimating United, recalling last season’s goalless draw against them despite Liverpool having 34 shots.

“If you take 34 shots, maybe you need some luck, but United also defended really well,” he explained. “We need to prepare in the best way possible. They have quality players who see this as a chance to make their fans proud. Those players are always dangerous.”

Liverpool currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand over second-placed Arsenal.
