Club Brugge coach: We want to repeat what the teams did against Manchester City.. and our fate is in our hands

Club Brugge coach Nicky Hain shared his thoughts on the upcoming match against Manchester City in the Champions League, season 2024/25.

The Etihad Stadium is set to host the clash tomorrow in the eighth and final round of the Champions League league stage.

Manchester City are in a tough spot and need nothing less than a win to secure a play-off spot for the round of 16. City are currently in 25th place with 8 points, while Club Brugge sit in 20th place with 11 points.

Speaking to the Belgian network hbvl, Hain said, “Our draw with Juventus in the last round doesn’t mean we lost our confidence. We showed good performances in the Champions League, and we need to maintain that approach tomorrow.”

He continued, “All teams created chances against Manchester City, and we must take advantage of that.”

Hain acknowledged City’s strength, saying, “Manchester City are still a dominant team with plenty of quality. They can make the difference if you give them too much space. We have to stay compact between the lines, but that doesn’t mean we will play defensively. We need to deliver a perfect game.”

When asked about tomorrow’s most likely scenario, Hain responded, “It’s hard to say. We are here to get points. Many thought City would use their youth players in the last round, but they need three points, and we only need one.”

He added, “We can’t control results elsewhere, so I feel comfortable focusing on our own performance. We know we need an excellent game to achieve something here. As long as our fate is in our hands, we must focus on that.”

Hain concluded, “It’s still up to us, and we shouldn’t worry about other teams. That has always been the message to the players. We just need to focus on ourselves.”
