Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s coach, recently shared his regret over selling Spanish winger Jesus Navas. Guardiola coached Navas from 2013 to 2017 at Manchester City, and he now considers the sale of Navas as one of his biggest regrets.
Navas, who just retired from playing for Sevilla, joined Manchester City from the Spanish club in 2013 for 20 million euros. Over the next four years, he played 183 matches for City, contributing to 43 goals and winning three domestic titles. However, after Guardiola’s first season at City in 2016-2017, Navas left for Sevilla on a free transfer.
Guardiola expressed his regret about the decision, saying, “Thank you for this year we spent together. I regret selling you. I wanted you to stay, but I had to make a tough call about your departure.”
Navas, now retired at the age of 37, had an impressive career with Sevilla, playing 705 games over 18 seasons. He also enjoyed success at the international level, winning two European Championships and a World Cup.
Looking ahead, Guardiola and Manchester City are focused on their upcoming matches. City will play West Ham United on Saturday in the 20th round of the Premier League, hoping to build on their recent 2-0 victory over Leicester City. After that, they will face Salford City in the FA Cup on January 11, aiming to win their eighth FA Cup title.
