Reports have revealed a surprising detail, suggesting that top European clubs now have a genuine chance to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland from Manchester City, despite him recently extending his contract until June 30, 2034.

Rumours had previously linked Haaland with a move away from Manchester City, particularly to Real Madrid or Barcelona, next summer. However, Haaland shocked everyone by agreeing to a new long-term contract with the English club, which includes a substantial salary, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.

Yet, the newspaper “Nacional” reported a shocking revelation that a clause in Haaland’s contract could allow him to leave Manchester City if he chooses.

A special clause threatens Erling Haaland’s future

According to the report, this clause would give Haaland the option to leave Manchester City if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The concern about not qualifying for the Champions League this season looms large for Manchester City, who are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings with 41 points, just two points behind Chelsea in fourth place—the final position for Champions League qualification.

Even after spending heavily in the winter transfer window, including signing Egyptian Omar Marmoush for 70 million euros, Manchester City has struggled to find their best form under Pep Guardiola. This was highlighted by a heavy 1-5 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League.

In the Champions League, Manchester City finished the group stage in second place with 11 points from three wins, two draws, and three losses. They are set to face Spanish giants Real Madrid in a crucial play-off round of 16.

It’s worth noting that Haaland joined Manchester City in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund for 60 million euros. Since then, he has played 131 matches for the Sky Blues, scoring 115 goals and providing 16 assists across all competitions.
