Manchester United has been heavily criticised for failing to sign Erling Haaland, with many considering it “one of the biggest transfer mistakes of the last decade.”

Throughout Haaland‘s career, United had several opportunities to secure his signature. The club’s former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who worked with him at Molde, was eager to bring the Norwegian striker to Old Trafford. However, the deal never happened, and Haaland later moved to Borussia Dortmund before joining Manchester City in 2022. Since then, Erling has become a Premier League champion, a Champions League winner, and a Golden Boot recipient, scoring 114 goals in 130 appearances for City.

Louis Saha’s Thoughts on Haaland’s New Contract

Louis Saha, a former Manchester United player, spoke about Haaland’s recent decision to sign a huge 10-year contract with City. He told spaceportsweden.com that he felt disappointed when Erling announced he was staying at City. Saha said, “As a Manchester United fan, I was gutted when I heard Haaland had signed a new big contract with Manchester City. I was really upset because I know United could have had him, and that seems like one of the biggest transfer mistakes in the last decade!”

Saha also expressed his happiness that Haaland would stay in the Premier League. “From a football fan’s perspective, I’m glad to see him stay in the Premier League and not move to Real Madrid or Barcelona. He’s a top player, and it’s great for the league,” Saha added. He praised Erling’s loyalty to City and the commitment from both the player and the club, which aims to win more trophies in the future. Saha believes Erling’s desire will not fade after signing such a long contract.

United now watches Haaland as he continues to break records. Erling has already scored 81 goals in 89 Premier League appearances and remains in the hunt for more titles. Meanwhile, United, under manager Ruben Amorim, faces struggles with finding a consistent striker to lead the team.
