A new European powerhouse has joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, even as reports suggest that the Moroccan star is close to finalising a contract extension with the French champions until 2029.
According to the “fichajes” website, Manchester United plan to make a significant impact in the upcoming summer transfer window to reshape their squad after years without winning the Premier League title.
The Red Devils aim to meet the expectations of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim by securing three high-profile signings: Swedish striker Victor Gyokires from Sporting Lisbon, Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint-Germain.
With these acquisitions, Manchester United hope to assemble a team capable of reclaiming their status as a dominant force in English and European football, a position they have lost to rivals like Manchester City.
Manchester United targeting Achraf Hakimi
This season, Hakimi has made 24 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain across all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists. He also leads the rankings in the French league with an average rating of 7.99 points, according to data from the “Sofa Score” platform.
However, signing Hakimi won’t be an easy task for Manchester United. The player has drawn interest from several other top clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Additionally, reports indicate that Hakimi has already reached a preliminary agreement to extend his stay with Paris Saint-Germain until 2029.
Manchester United’s connection with Moroccan stars
Manchester United seems to have a strong connection with Moroccan players. Sofyan Amrabat played for the club on loan last season, though United opted not to make his move permanent, despite the transfer fee being valued at just €20 million.

Last summer, United added another Moroccan talent to their squad by signing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich for €15 million. Should they succeed in bringing Hakimi on board, it would create a dynamic Moroccan partnership on the right side of the team.
