KSI launches new football competition with Manchester United and Liverpool stars involved

A group of Manchester United and Liverpool players are preparing to take part in a new football competition, with the backing of influencer and boxer KSI. The competition has already secured an investment of £19.2 million before it even starts.

What’s the story?

KSI, a British influencer who is also a big football fan and supports Arsenal, decided to launch a new competition called the “Baller League”. The concept is similar to the “Kings League” that Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué created in Spain.

The idea first appeared in Germany in 2023, and now KSI is bringing it to the UK, where it will begin this year.

Who’s taking part in the competition?

So far, Liverpool winger Diogo Jota and Manchester United players Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot have joined the competition, which will feature teams of six players.

The Daily Mail reported that several influential people have invested in the competition, alongside the “Apex” foundation, bringing the total investment to £19.2 million.

What did the players say?

Jota commented, “The tournament has a lot of crossover with e-sports and live streaming. The numbers that Twitch is achieving in Germany show a strong indicator of the success this competition could have.”

Dalot added, “As a professional footballer, I’m always looking for new ways to connect with the sport I love. This competition offers a fresh perspective that mixes football with entertainment. It’s a great opportunity to explore a new side of the game.”

Notable coaches for the competition

Daily Mail also reported that football legends Gary Lineker, John Terry, and Luís Figo have been appointed as coaches for the tournament. Additionally, well-known figures such as Micah Richards, Alan Shearer, Freddie Ljungberg, Jens Lehmann, and Robert Pirès will be part of the coaching teams.

When does the competition start?

The UK version of the competition is set to start on 3 March and will take place every Monday until mid-May. Twelve teams will compete, and each match will be broadcast live. There will also be a weekly show on YouTube, with the matches being held in London and Manchester. Retired stars, futsal players, and free agents will make up the teams.
