Grealish Urged to Leave Manchester City and Return to Aston Villa
Jack Grealish has been encouraged to leave Man City and go back to Aston Villa next year after struggling to meet expectations at the Etihad. He made a record-breaking £100m move from Villa to City ahead of the 2021/22 season, but he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype.
While Grealish has shown glimpses of his talent, his form has dipped over time, and he has fallen down the City pecking order due to injuries and inconsistent performances.
This disappointing form has been part of Manchester City’s struggles this season, with Grealish registering just two assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.

Lee Hendrie, a former Aston Villa player, believes Grealish should return to Villa. He argues that Grealish wouldn’t be leaving for money, but to find enjoyment in his game again.
Hendrie Discusses Grealish’s Struggles at Man City and His Potential Return
“I think now is the time for Jack to consider leaving the club,” Hendrie said. “Nobody can deny that the move was successful; he has won everything possible at City.” But for his own sake, he needs to rediscover his love for football.”
“He’d be a great addition to any top club. I would love to see him back at Villa, but the financial side of it might make the deal tricky,” he added.
Hendrie also pointed out that despite some criticism from Villa fans, they would welcome Grealish back. He believes that Grealish would return to Villa not for the money but to help the club progress and win more trophies.
“It would be fantastic if he returned,” Hendrie said. “But right now, he needs to leave City to enjoy his football again.”
Hendrie also explained why City fans haven’t seen the best of Grealish. He recalled speaking to Grealish when he first joined City, where the winger admitted it was hard to adjust to his new environment.
“I told him to get on with it and enjoy playing football. He’s gone on to win trophies, but he’s a fantastic person and has a huge heart,” Hendrie explained.
“I don’t think we’ve seen the best version of Grealish at City. We’ve only seen glimpses. He’s playing the way his manager wants him to, but when I watch him play for England, he’s a completely different player. He plays with much more freedom.”
