Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Marcus Rashford, following the confirmation that he will miss Manchester United’s upcoming match against Liverpool.
Last month, Rashford expressed his desire to leave the Premier League club, which followed his exclusion from the squad by coach Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby against Man City on December 15.
The England international sat out four matches before making his return to Manchester United’s squad for their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United. Amorim has now confirmed that Rashford will miss the weekend’s game against Liverpool due to illness, and Romano has confirmed this is the reason for his absence.
Romano also stated that Rashford “can still leave the club,” with several teams reportedly interested in signing him this month.
“Rashford will not be in the squad to face Liverpool because he’s ill. He’s unable to travel or play. But the situation between Man United and the player is still unresolved,” Romano said.
“He believes European football is the perfect stage for him, despite some interest from Saudi Arabia. There are clubs interested in him, but he’s not considering that option.”
Although Rashford has declined interest from the Saudi Pro League, journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that “MLS has an appetite” for the forward, with Seattle Sounders having inquired about a potential move.
“There are indications that MLS clubs are interested in Rashford. While he doesn’t fit the model of deals funded by MLS’s streaming partner Apple, he might still receive a suitable offer if there’s MLS interest, provided there’s central support,” Jacobs said.
“Seattle Sounders have asked about him, though there’s no significant progress yet. Seattle’s interest comes from being a representative in the Club World Cup, which could attract players. They’re expected to earn between €50-60 million from participating, which helps MLS teams pay for top players.”
Jacobs, however, tempered the speculation, stating: “I’m not sure Rashford would want to move there. We shouldn’t overemphasize the MLS links. As of now, Seattle hasn’t contacted Rashford or Manchester United directly. It’s more of an internal discussion that could progress in January, not the summer, because the MLS calendar means January is the key period for signings ahead of the season’s start.”
