Manchester City now face the possibility of an unexpected betrayal in the English Premier League. This comes as the Sky Blues struggle with disappointing results both domestically and in Europe, putting them at risk of losing the Premier League title they have dominated for the last four seasons.

According to the “fichajes” website, Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, currently at Atletico Madrid, has emerged as a strong candidate to return to the English Premier League. However, this time, he could join Manchester City’s arch-rivals, Manchester United.

Reports confirm that the 25-year-old Argentine striker has become a frequent name in Manchester United’s discussions. The Red Devils aim to strengthen their attack by signing him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The same source states that Manchester United plan to offer a significant sum of €150 million to convince Atletico Madrid to let Alvarez return to the Premier League in the next summer transfer window.

Julian Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 from Manchester City in a deal worth €75 million. Since then, he has enjoyed a solid season, playing 36 matches across various competitions and scoring 17 goals.

Alvarez’s intelligence and movement inside the penalty area have attracted interest from several top European clubs. Previous rumours have linked him with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Julian Alvarez spent two full seasons at Manchester City after joining from River Plate in 2022. However, he struggled to secure a regular starting spot under Pep Guardiola.

After the arrival of Norwegian star Erling Haaland, Alvarez began to lose hope of regular playing time. This led him to leave the Etihad Stadium after making 103 appearances for the club, scoring 36 goals and providing 17 assists.

It is worth noting that Manchester City signed Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush in the current winter transfer window to strengthen their attack, which was weakened by Alvarez’s departure to Atletico Madrid last summer.
