Several key players will be absent for Manchester United’s upcoming trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Coach Ruben Amorim confirmed at his pre-match press conference that illness has left Marcus Rashford as a doubt, while the return of Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte, who both served suspensions, will bolster the team.

Amorim stated, “The situation is the same, but right now he’s ill. I think he will miss this week. He’s not training, so we will see.”

United had left Rashford as an unused substitute in their 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Monday, and they had also excluded him from the squad for the previous four matches amid growing speculation over his future.

In addition, both Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have been dealing with injuries for Manchester, with setbacks reported last month following their returns from previous issues.

Jonny Evans was also absent from the squad on Monday, with young Godwill Kukonki named on the bench instead. Though the team hasn’t specified the reason for Evans’ absence, they have included him in the team news ahead of the match.

Fernandes will be available for the Liverpool game despite receiving his second red card of the season in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, he only served a one-match ban after his red card against Tottenham Hotspur was later rescinded.

Ugarte is also available after serving a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards in the Premier League.
