Manchester United received a huge shock today, Thursday, February 6, when the club confirmed that one of their defenders had ruptured his cruciate ligament after getting injured in the last match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Argentinian Lisandro Martinez suffered a serious injury during the team’s most recent match against Crystal Palace, which ended with Manchester United losing 2-0.

Manchester United released an official statement confirming that Martinez has ruptured his cruciate ligament, and this injury will keep him out of action for a long time.

The club added that Martinez is undergoing further medical tests to determine the best treatment plan and rehabilitation schedule. It is expected that Martinez will be out for several months, which likely means the end of his season with the team and his absence from European competitions.

This injury comes at a tough time for Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, who recently took charge at United. Amorim had been relying on Martinez to strengthen the defence, especially with the defensive issues the team has faced this season. Despite some players returning from injury, Martinez’s absence will present a major challenge, particularly with the busy fixture list in the Premier League.

The club, currently in twelfth place in the Premier League, expressed full support for Martinez during his treatment and rehabilitation. They wished him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch soon.

Although there were early indications that Martinez might have suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, the club decided not to sign a new defender on the final day of the transfer window last Monday.

The decision was made as the club believed they had several options in defence, with players like Lenny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and the recent arrival Aiden Haven available.

It’s worth noting that Martinez played 32 matches for the Red Devils this season across all competitions, contributing to four goals. He scored two goals and assisted two more.
