Fire Breaks Out Outside Etihad Before Marmoush’s Unveiling
A massive fire broke out outside Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium just before their crucial Champions League match against Club Brugge. The fire spread while City were preparing to introduce their new signings, including Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush. City must win the match to stay in the Champions League, as it is the final game of the group stage and they need a victory to qualify for the knockout round play-offs.
Videos surfaced on social media showing flames and smoke rising near the stadium as fans were arriving for the game. The fire started just as City were getting ready to present their new signings, with Marmoush being the standout name after his move from Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter transfer window.
Fire crews rushed to the scene to put out the flames. The fire spread to one of City’s official club stores, which sells jerseys and merchandise. City’s team bus reached the stadium at the same time firefighters were working to control the situation.
Marmoush Cannot Play Against Club Brugge
Marmoush is not allowed to play against Club Brugge. UEFA rules do not let clubs use new winter signings in the group stage. The Egyptian forward will have to wait for City to qualify for the knockout rounds before making his Champions League debut for the team.
Marmoush already played his first match for City in the Premier League against Chelsea. He started the game and played 74 minutes before Pep Guardiola substituted him for Kevin De Bruyne.
