Manchester City sign Nico Gonzalez on a deal until 2029

Man City confirmed on their official website late on Monday, 3rd February, that they have signed Nico Gonzalez on a contract running until 2029.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester City completed the deal for Gonzalez by paying €60m. The club triggered the release clause in his contract with Porto to bring him in and strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield for the second half of the season.

Barcelona to receive €20m from Gonzalez’s move to Man City

Spanish newspaper “Marca” revealed that Barcelona will get €20m from Gonzalez’s transfer from Porto to Man City this winter.

Barcelona had sold Gonzalez to Porto for €8m in the summer of 2023 but included a clause that entitled them to 40% of any future transfer fee. This means the Catalan club will now receive a much-needed €20m from the deal.

So far this season, Gonzalez has played 29 matches for Porto across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 6 assists, according to stats from “Transfermarkt”.

Before his move to Porto in 2023, Gonzalez came through Barcelona’s youth system. He was loaned to Valencia in 2022 before being sold to the Portuguese club, and now he has officially joined Manchester City.
