With the start of the new year, a number of football stars now have the opportunity to negotiate with other clubs ahead of their contracts expiring at the end of the 2024-25 season. Prominent names such as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne, both key figures in the Premier League, affect the group of players involved.
A total of 82 high-profile players in the Premier League will see their contracts expire next summer, giving them the right to begin talks with other clubs as of January 1.
This is in accordance with the Bosman ruling, established by the European Court of Justice in 1995, which allows players within the European Union to join a new team for free when their contracts come to an end.
Liverpool is actively working to renew the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk. However, there are many other Premier League stars who are now eligible to sign with different clubs starting today.
For Liverpool, the situation is particularly significant, with the trio of Mohamed Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk all due to become free agents in June. These players are crucial to the club’s current success and their potential departures could have a major impact.

Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy is also eligible to negotiate with other clubs from today, as is Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will benefit from a 12-month extension clause in Son’s contract, but he will also seek to secure a longer-term deal for the South Korean forward.
Mikel Arteta may face challenges at Arsenal if Thomas Partey and Jorginho leave at the end of the season, as their contracts will also expire. However, the club will do everything possible to keep them on new contracts.
