French Midfielder Says the Red Devils Are Trapped in a Deep Struggle On and Off the Pitch
France and Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot said he came very close to signing for man united more than once in the last two years.
While speaking to The Athletic, Rabiot said, “I almost joined man united in 2023, when my deal with Juventus was nearly over. But in the end, I decided to sign a one-year extension.”
He added, “The talks went well, and I got an official offer from them, but the move didn’t happen.”
Rabiot also said that he had fresh talks with man united in the summer of 2024 when he became a free agent. But this time, things didn’t go smoothly because he had doubts about where the club are going.

The French player explained, “I felt unsure about man united’s future. It looked like they are stuck in a bad place, like falling into a deep hole, and I couldn’t trust that they could move forward or win big things soon.”
Rabiot made it clear that he didn’t regret joining Marseille instead. He said he had a strong season there and helped the team reach their goal of playing in next season’s Champions League.
He said, “I don’t feel bad about picking Marseille. I had a great year, and I’m proud to help them get into the Champions League.”
During the season, Rabiot scored nine goals and gave five assists for Marseille. The team finished second in the league behind champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Rabiot’s choice to turn away from man united shows that players now see the club’s problems clearly. They think twice before joining a team that still struggles to find stability. His move to Marseille gave him a better chance to compete at the top level again.
