Real Madrid player Lucas Vazquez spoke after his team’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu, during the 23rd round of La Liga.
Vazquez said that the draw in the derby against Atletico “wasn’t enough”, as his team created “chances” to win, but “lacked luck”. He mentioned: “The opponent went ahead without doing much, and then we changed our game and kept attacking. In the second half, we focused well and equalised. We created more chances that could have given us the lead, but we didn’t manage to take them.”
Despite the draw, Vazquez pointed out that it did not affect Real Madrid’s position at the top of La Liga. “That’s the positive side, we are still in first place, where we want to be and need to be, and we will fight to stay there until the end,” he added.

Vazquez also praised the Real Madrid fans for their support in the match, saying: “We could feel their encouragement. When we drew the match, it felt like the stadium was going to explode with how strong the support was. The fans are part of this team and will help us win titles.”
He refused to comment on the penalty that Atletico Madrid used to score their only goal in the match, explaining that speaking about the referee’s decisions might lead to sanctions.
Looking ahead to Real Madrid’s next match, which is on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League knockout round against Manchester City, Vazquez said: “It will be another great match in Manchester. It’s going to be tough against a great opponent that we have faced in the last four or five years,” and added, “The team is very excited to show what we can do and our value.”

This draw is a “valuable gift” for Barcelona, who are in third place with 45 points, having played one less match.
