Football Insider revealed that Manchester City has set aside a significant budget to help Pep Guardiola pursue Real Madrid’s French midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni.

The report highlighted Liverpool‘s strong interest in signing the 24-year-old during the upcoming summer transfer windows.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke, speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, explained that Liverpool tried to sign Tchouameni in 2022 before his £85.3 million move from Monaco to Real Madrid. However, the Reds lost out to the Spanish giants.

Liverpool remains determined to attract the French talent, seeing him as one of the brightest midfielders in Europe.

Tchouameni’s Winter Transfer Unlikely

A transfer during the winter window seems improbable, as Carlo Ancelotti relies heavily on Aurelien and plans to keep him for Real Madrid’s title pursuits this season.

Manchester City Seeks Midfield Reinforcement

Manchester City aims to strengthen their midfield, especially after Rodri’s injury impacted their performance and results.

Tchouameni

Last September, Football Insider reported that City had already started planning for midfield reinforcements, with Tchouameni as a top target. The club has the financial resources ready to complete the deal, with the player’s market value currently estimated at €80 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Tchouameni has played 22 matches for Real Madrid this season, including five in the Champions League. While he often covers defensive duties as a makeshift center-back, his preferred role remains as a defensive midfielder.

English Clubs Offer Tempting Opportunities

A move to Manchester City or Liverpool could appeal to Tchouameni, especially if either club offers him a key role in their lineup.

However, the summer of 2025 seems the most likely time for any deal to materialize. Both English clubs may look to leverage Tchouameni’s desire for regular playing time in his preferred position.

This transfer could become one of the standout moves in the European market, adding intrigue to Tchouameni’s future. Real Madrid, despite his contract running until June 30, 2028, may consider offers next summer if they meet their demands.
